Reading the introduction of Rheingold's Why You Need Digital Know-How — Why We All Need It, I found that many people can benefit from learning digital literacy. That there are many types of people who can benefit and those people aren’t exclusively younger people. Early on in the reading, it talks about who may benefit from reading it and it said: “People who are old enough to remember the world before it was webbed, and are simultaneously puzzled, attracted, and fearful about new media” (Rheingold). I had never thought that this could apply to the older generation who may be hesitant and want to know the right and safe ways of using digital literacy.

What I will be taking away from this class is that we have learned and got to look into how we are using online platforms and even games as a way of learning in the classroom. One example is that Minecraft can be used to teach chemistry and even math. I had no idea that this was an option in a way on online learning and I think that this is smart to incorporate learning with games they are already playing. I also looked into Words With Friends, a game I enjoy playing and I learned they are using this app in classrooms. I’ve known that apps and games have been used sometimes in classrooms but I had no idea how many different ways they are using online platforms for learning. I have also learned that we have to use caution when using online platforms. There are many ways in which we should watch what we post and say but also how we must protect our selves with what we post. Overall, the internet and online platforms are growing and integrating their way into how we learn, and into our daily lives. Since they are growing we must adapt and make sure we are using the internet in a way that is intended but also in a safe way. Going forward, for myself I have learned that we can learn a lot about the internet on the internet, so by making sure to keep up on how the internet is changing and how it be mindful of how we are interacting with it is how I am going to be continuously building my digital literacy.
